Confessions of a Reluctant Romantic

Why is it that so-called truths have to be so elusive? I myself have believed, for quite awhile, that things like Justice, Equality, Liberty, etc. have existed, and that they are attainable. Certainly, attainable within a person. Society as a whole, may not be able to fully realize these truths because individual differences and such. I am not here today to discuss perception as reality or the nature of truth or anything like that, I will save that for later.

However, anyone who knows me, knows that I have from time time to time denied the existence of Love, as a universal truth. I know Love exists I just did not believe that it was between two certain people, and that Love alone could accomplish anything. I believed it was just a Hollywood, and greeting card gimmick, meant to sell movies and enslave the American public. I still believe that for a large part. Some events of my life recently have caused me to reevaluate that belief.

It has become apparent to me that Love may be the only truth in the world. For what is Justice, Freedom, or even Equality without Love? Nothing would be my answer, nothing at all. All of the ideas that one would say are transcendent and true to human nature are secondary to Love. Love is the only idea that can move a person. The only one that can accomplish anything. The only way for a happy ending. Everything else in the world is simply the presence or absence of Love of fellow human beings, the Earth, Animals, or, most importantly, the Self. For if you start with Love of the Self, and work from Love, and with Love in all situations, you cannot do wrong. So, the first step for any person, or any group, to make any progress on attaining any of those truths is to work toward Love of all individuals in that group, the rest will fall into place.
